Here is a portrait of Chip I have been working on. He is one of 3 labs I've been commissioned to paint. He was 14 years old, a bit crickety but regal, with a gleaming, greying coat. You could tell he was well loved. I was trying to get this completed before he passed away since 14 is really old for a lab. Alas, he passed away a few days ago. I wish I could just whip these things out, but I just don't work that way.
I plan to lighten the background and keep building up layers on him. Comments? Suggestions?

Is he a chocolate lab or is he red because of your underpainting? You've captured a terrific expression on his gentlemanly face.
He is both!
He looks so handsome and dignified. The look in his eyes is of love and loyalty, yet he knows it's time to go.
Love it!
WOW! looks great so far. chip was a 100% stud dog... distinguished, wise, experienced describes his personality as your portrait does. cannot wait to see the final product, although nothing can ever replace chip the wonderdog! woof!

I loved meeting Chip through the start of your painting.
I'm sad that I never knew him.
Please post a picture of the painting when it's finished.
How's your portrait of Chip coming along? I'd love to see more photos of it!
